Inbye Mining Services Launches the NEW High Capacity Longwall Equipment
Media Release
Inbye Mining Services launched the Vale Carborough Downs Coal Mine longwall system at the Inbye Mackay Facility 29-30th April 2009.
These two open days were informative and attracted a variety of industry decision makers. In addition to inspections of the true-to-life equipment, there were presentations from Inbye Mining Services and its stakeholders. The guest speaker was Darren Flannagan who was involved in the rescue of two miners during the Beaconsfield disaster.
During the first day, Inbye Mining Services thanked the Vale Carborough Downs stakeholders and gave a commitment to keep a tight schedule for installation of the new longwall equipment. On day two, Inbye Mining Services launched the latest longwall equipment to potential customers.
Attendants were in awe of the size of the equipment, and the logistics involved in installing and operating a longwall. The longwall installation in Carborough Downs Coal Mine is expected to take 18-months to complete.
Thirty roof supports that were integral to the installation of this longwall system were imported from
Poland. A crane on the ship lifted each of the 42-tonne roof supports onto seven semi-trailers and
transported them to the Inbye Mackay facility in readiness for the launch to current and potential
customers.

These 30 longwall supports are the first of a batch of 149 that are to be installed in Carborough Downs Coal Mine. Each roof support is capable of holding up 1,238 tonnes of earth. The combined 149 roof supports have the capacity to hold 184,462 tonnes. Inbye Mining Services is responsible for training its mine staff on how to maintain and operate the equipment.
The longwall measures 300 metres long. A cutter called a shearer, runs along the wall and automatically extracts the coal. This shearer is capable of cutting about 4,500 tonnes of coal a day.
Richard Eveleigh, Managing Director Inbye Mining Services stated:
"We at Inbye Mining Services are proud and privileged to be responsible for the installation of the monster longwall system into Carborough Downs Coal Mine."
"The installation of this longwall system marks the beginning of the Inbye Mining Services new strategic direction as a leading Australian company in the installation of underground mining longwall systems."
Inbye Mining Services is the only longwall supplier in Australia not to be affected by the slowdown in
Bowen Basin coal production. Inbye Mining Services is a leading Australian company in supplying
underground mining products and services from its three Hunter locations and one location in Mackay.
